It is our privilege to have the opportunity to include The Portrait of the Townships Series II in Remembering David Bierk. This unique box set was finished and signed in the Fall of 2001, less than a year beforeDavid Bierk’s death.
“These boxed studies are five of my favourite landscape compositions. Each box in the series contains a similar but not identical set of landscapes. The variations from box to box are like repeated melodic phrases which are embellished with every playing. History, memory and imagination are the inspiration for these paintings.” David Bierk
Portrait of the Townships – Series II, 2001
16.25 x 19. 25 inches each framed
(12 x 15 inches each unframed)
Oil on panel
The set consists of five 15 x 12 inch panels (Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Dusk, and Nightfall) which have since been framed. The unframed panels fit into a custom presentation box with lid painted by David Bierk. The original insert picturing the paintings and signed by the artist is included in the box along with black fabric sleeves for each panel.
David Bierk made four of these box sets, each containing five original paintings on panel. This is one of two sets that were originally sold intact; panels from the other sets were sold individually. As it is quite possible that this is the only remaining intact set, we are only offering Portrait of the Townships – Series II as a set and will not sell the panels individually.
