As the latest evolution of Dale Chihuly's work, this installation heralds the artist's long relationship with Tacoma-and its museum. The work shows a keen sense of place, taking its cues from the light and architecture of the museum's largest gallery designed by acclaimed architect Antoine Predock. Like the large, sculptural work Chihuly has installed throughout the world, this work is specific to the building and far different from all previous work. Coupled with Tacoma Art Museum's extensive display of its collection of Chihuly's early work in glass, the museum will offer visitors a broad view of the artist's career.Tacoma Art Museum now holds the largest public collection of Chihuly Glass. This collection features examples from many of Chihuly's major series of works: Baskets, Sea Forms, Cylinders, Macchia, Persians, and Venetians.
