Floribunda
March 31 - April 16, 2005
Artist Reception Thursday March 31, 6-8 pm
The Diane Farris Gallery is pleased to
announce Floribunda, a spring exhibition with a burst
of colour.
Latin for "abundant flowers", the genus of flowers
known as Floribunda produces numerous beautiful clusters
and blooms nearly continuously throughout the season. In the
year 2005, this group exhibit of floral work by gallery artists
underscores the joyous renewal and endurance of humanity even
in the midst of global disaster and chaos.
From the traditional formality of Hawaii-based artist Snowden
Hodges to the darkness and intensity of Marjan Eggermont’s
steel silkscreens that defy categorization, Floribunda explores
the flower through a variety of mediums including photography,
glass sculpture, drawing, mixed media and, of course, painting.
The show includes paintings, photographs and sculptures by gallery
artists Wesley Anderson, Shannon Belkin, Roberta Bondar, Dale
Chihuly, Jennifer Goodwin, John Koerner, Justin Ogilvie, Natty
Saidi, Carmelo Sortino and Gu Xiong; and visiting artists Marjan
Eggermont, Christopher Gruver and
Snowden Hodges. Their images of flowers,
plants and leaves are as varied and numerous as the show's namesake
“floribunda”.
